WikiLeaks receives about thirty submissions a day, and typically posts the ones it deems credible in their raw, unedited state, with commentary alongside. Assange told me, “I want to set up a new standard: ‘scientific journalism.’ If you publish a paper on DNA, you are required, by all the good biological journals, to submit the data that has informed your research—the idea being that people will replicate it, check it, verify it. So this is something that needs to be done for journalism as well. There is an immediate power imbalance, in that readers are unable to verify what they are being told, and that leads to abuse.” Because Assange publishes his source material, he believes that WikiLeaks is free to offer its analysis, no matter how speculative. In the case of Project B, Assange wanted to edit the raw footage into a short film as a vehicle for commentary. For a while, he thought about calling the film “Permission to Engage,” but ultimately decided on something more forceful: “Collateral Murder.” He told Gonggrijp, “We want to knock out this ‘collateral damage’ euphemism, and so when anyone uses it they will think ‘collateral murder.’ ”

The successful application of any art is a delightful spectacle, but the theory, too, is interesting; and though there is a great deal of the latter without the former, I suspect there has never been a genuine success that has not had a latent core of conviction. UPMC Braddock closing challenged

In steady rain yesterday Braddock, Homestead, Rankin, West Mifflin,
and Swissvale residents protested the closing of UPMC Braddock's
hospital. Outside the South Braddock Avenue entrance organizers
parked a truck with speakers and a microphone where a crowd of 2- 300
gathered.

One Bloomfield resident worried that UPMC's intentions were
to focus its energies in Bloomfield to put Western Pennsylvania Hospital out of business. Speakers, residents and non-residents felt that the
UPMC's intentions are symptomatic of a healthcare system in the United States which suffers from "a cancer".

Operation Sappho
Have you noticed: in Pittsburgh you either know about Operation Sappho or you don't. I could make it my superheroic quest to spread Operation Sappho like wildfire, sticky jam and peanut butter, gossip.
Why I'm an advocate: It's important for a city to have a dance party with recursive elements: time, place, crowd, and style. This way people can whisper things to each other to confirm occurrence, "Is it on?!" and communicate theme on Facebook.
In addition, 12 dance parties evenly spaced throughout the year encourage mind blowing spiritual reset and create a space for desystemization.
The most significant reason is much less idealistic: great djs need a place to spread their vibes. DJs Mary Mack, Deanna, and J[am] [Bo]x tapped it on Saturday leaving me with longer lasting post elation forcefield power than some other alternative activities... bouncing from new wave, punk rock, to post punk, even radio pop, each lady erecting her urban tsunami and drowning it in the festival of writhing bodies, unstoppable and panting for more. When the lights popped on I could see the same surprise on everyone's faces: I'd forgotten I was human...
If you were there that night we put the video straight up on the ceiling and like those guys that lay the canvas on the floor and start throwing paint around, straight out of gallon paint buckets, we destroyed.
Needless to say I caught a number of dancers, heads thrown back, mouths agape, dancing with the djs, jammin to the vibe, groovin on each other, high, in the omni-collective sense, as kites.

See you at Bike Pittsburgh on the 14th of august...

Benefit for the Polish Hill Civic Council with Mary Mack, Jax, and Blissy
The girls were spinning fantastic dance beats, switching off from the stage.
I projected from floor in the opposite corner onto a white cloth covering the painted singing ladies. Trusty Epson Powerlite 78 was bright and true....
There were four sources and a floor cam to mix from. I used an analog processor to key in and out, switch signals, wipe, mosaic etc etc etc etc
Special thanks to the crowd for sweatin it out and to Jamie who stepped in and showed me that no to VJs punch and slide the same; Jamie! come out and play again!
